Test day
Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004 at 12:42

I'm feeling nervous. Not overly nervous, but still nervous. I have to take an exam today at 3pm. It's a belt test for shorinji kempo. If I pass, I will no longer be a white belt. Finally. I'm like way behind. I've been doing it for about 8 months. On and off, luckily more on than off. Should've been a yellow belt 3 months ago though but work got in the way. It's not actually a hard test. The test for white to go on to yellow is actually about understanding the jargon, and since it's a japanese art form, the vocab is in japanese. So that means a yellow belt is expected to know when the sensei or other instructors shout, "Hidari cho dan gamae!" Problem is I feel more ready 3 months ago than I do now. Cause 3 months ago I had a book given by the sensei that gives all the vocabulary and tells me what I need to know for each level. And guess what, don't have the book now. So until now, I've been able to fake it and just be a split second slower than everyone so I can see what position their going into and then just copy. But once I get to yellow belt... shish... I have to be like a good example, ya know. Cause I don't wanna disappoint my sensei and all that. I'm really upset I lost the book. Especially today. At least I can get in some last minute studying for the test today. I would delay the test today if I could, but Sensei Yacob is obviously tired of seeing me as a white.

Note: "Hidari" means left, "cho dan" means middle and "gamae" means stance.
